A Brief History of the Second Republic

The date of the coup was set for the date of december the second, the anniversary of the battle of osterlitz and napoleon's coronation as emperor. A rump of about 250 assembly members gathered in the north of paris to try to muster a constitutional opposition to this illegal coup. Soldiers arrested the deputies, along with every other identified trouble maker from lists that had been drawn up in advance.
