The Stoic Approach to Life Is Better Suited to Confronting Changes in Circumstances
The Epicurean still holds to an ideal set of circumstances for where the happy life can be found because he has his garden. Nietzsche clearly thinks that the stoical approach to life is better suited to confront the changing tides of fate and that in particularly volatile times one would do well to become a stoic. The idea that one should have to learn to be indifferent to swallowing every you know scorpion and whatever started broken glass isn't exactly an insult to Epicureanism or a statement that Friedrich Nietzsche doesn't approve of it.
