Introduction
The 9th of May is Victory Day in Russia, commemorating its victory over Nazi Germany in World War II. It's famous for those huge parades in front of the Kremlin and is perhaps just signature demonstration of Russian martial valor. Of course this year, there may be less to celebrate as Russia's war in Ukraine is going nowhere with expectations of a huge Ukrainian counter-offensive. To understand the context and significance of Victory Day, both in general in Russia and specifically in 2023, I'm delighted to be joined by Stefan Wulf who's professor of international security at the University of Birmingham.
