The Basics of Gnosticism

Gnosticism is an umbrella term for a number of different Christian movements, some more invested in Greek philosophy than others. Irenaeus's book Against Heresies was our most important source on what the Gnostics had believed. The thinker Marcian took the extreme step of dismissing the entire Old Testament and condemning Yahweh as a false minor deity.
