Using ASCII in Roguelikes and Dwarf Fortress

ASCII is not something that has been adapted on a lot of commercial games or or any obvious game you say for obvious reasons. Dwarf Fortress which again borrows a lot of procedural stuff in the permadeath from roguelikes and borrows the ASCII display. Tarn Adams tells me his plan is actually just to use ASCII for this like long long alpha sort of phase and once he wants to eventually tile the game it will be completely finished but who knows might take another 20 years.
