Theresa urea is the daughter of a hacienda owner and an indigenous woman. She was apprenticed to a healer on her father's ranch when she was just 16 years old. Her mother, who also had a gift for healing, is almost completely written out of the story. The author talks about how different groups see her as a healer or not.
