The Evolution of SARS-CoV-2 Infection
A lot of the confusion about how SARS-CoV-2 affects smell comes from the fact that it doesn't really affect mice. So what people have done is they've genetically engineered mice to express ACE2 in all neurons. And if you take a mouse in which ACE2 is expressed everywhere and you give it COVID, then all the neurons that are topically expressing ACE2 get infected.
