Whale Tails - The Biggest Whales Ever
Owen Chase's whale boat got smashed by a whale tail. He hurriedly repaired his boat by nailing canvas over the hole and he returned to the fray. Cabin boy Thomas Nickerson, all of 15 years old was behind the helm of the Essex. The largest sperm whale anyone on board had ever seen an 80 ton Leviathan, 85 feet long as big as the ship itself.
