When you're five years old, a day is a substantial portion of the amount of time you've been on the earth compared to when you're 70. The days are precious as you get older because there's fewer of them but they zip by partly because they represent such a small proportion of your conscious awareness. By analogy, think about wealth. If you are indigent, a homeless person, if you have no money, $5 means a whole lot to you. Because it's an enormous proportion of your wealth.
