Shackleton's War on Sledges

Shackleton had hoped to pull the boats about 60 miles, but it was immediately clear that they were never ever going to make it that far. They established yet another new camp, this one called patience camp. By mid january, the food supply was low enough that it could not sustain both the men and the dogs. All but two of the sledge teams were shot. Both shackleton and second in command, frank wilde, wrote that this was the worst job of their lives.
