The Importance of Looking Spanish

In 1942, Fred Korematsu was arrested for disobeying a military evacuation order. He had been attending the University of Washington and his family were ordered to board a bus for Hirabai camp. The ACLU helped him challenge the government's evacuation order in federal court. When it became clear he couldn't speak Spanish, Korematsu confessed to his Japanese heritage.
