The Rise of Thermidor

By our standards the revolutionary government was hopelessly, almost laugh ly, corrupt. Robespierre and his allies were not moving with the changing winds which gave the thermodorians an ideological opening. But it's simplistic to look at this as conservatives seizing control of the government to turn it in a more right wing direction.
