The Origins of the Universe

I'm trying to move towards a distinction between the universe beginning to exist and things like chairs beginning to exist. Let's say you have a skyscraper and you don't know particularly what time it begins to exist, but you could say that it's a period of time instead. The fact that a piece of wood becomes a chair is not something so much true off the of the wood, but as it is true of us. It isn't clear at all what is to be classed as homo sapiens. They're all kind of hominids that are very difficult to classify.
