Mercury's Gravitational Field Can Be Captured

The mercury imaging x ray spectrometer was designed and built at my university, the university of leicester. Its primary goal is to look at mercury's surface. Because the sun emits x rays all the time, they get absorbed by the surface layer of atoms on the planet. And then those atoms give off an ex ray of their own. So if we can collect all these x rays up, we can build up a picture of what the surface of mercury is made of. For the first time, we'll have incredible data and information about what the atoms are that are on mercury’s surface. It will help us understand the formation, development and evolution of mercury an its surface.
