Education Research Reading Room

CHAPTER

Learning Vocabulary in School

Teachers used to have students explain each word before they got a mark. But the new activity gives more encounters too, so it's beneficial for their learning. The next thing im keen to talk about is the idea kind of learning from context. Some people think you need a really pure approach and it can only be learnt implicitly. And some people think it should only be taught explicitly,. Not imagine it's kind of mlar with vocabulary. A lot of people would believe that just doing heaps and heaps of reading is the best way to build vocab. Others think that explicit instruction is really necessary.
