The Fifth Precept, Non-Misusing Intoxicants

I like the way you say that intoxicants are a way of looking aside, refusing to face what we're encountering in the present moment. What is so painful about the present moment that we should be in constant flight from it? I think it's that there's no self when we're fully present. We've let go of the ropes on the rope bridge and don't trust that somehow true nature will see me through.
