Is Your Disagreement With the Midrash Part of the Talmud?
"I feel more encouraged by the interpretations that I get to be creative, to be an interpreter," he says. "To me, it says, you can do almost anything with this text." The Midrash is a form of rabbinic commentary parallel to the Talmud. There's certainly something important about coming to the text with fresh eyes,. But if that's all you have is just sort of like my unfiltered reaction to the text, that also feels very limiting to her.
