Black box monitoring is seeing a system as a user would see it, right? So if you were to go to a web page and click on something, and it takes five seconds for it to load, that's what you're experiencing. The dashboard is what provides a summarry view for the most important metrics for a service. If you don't have a place to actually go look at it and to gather that information, then you don't really have a monitoring solution set up.
