The Rise and Fall of Edward IV
In March 1461, Edward IV declared himself king of England. He would have to win the throne in open battle or die as a rebel duke. The two sides first met on Saturday, March 28, when Edward entrapped a large contingent of land castrians and utterly wiped them out. According to later estimates, more than 100,000 soldiers had assembled by the end of March.
