The Importance of Abe Fortis on the Supreme Court

Abe Fortis was appointed by President Johnson to the Supreme Court not long after. He had known Johnson since he was a young congressman and dates back to the 30s. His most influential decision is Tinker v. Des Moines, in which students were suspended from school for wearing black armbands against the Vietnam War. The court took the position that school officials could not prohibit their right to free speech.
