The Myth of the Founding Fathers
All of those people who all supported the revolution in independence, for all kinds of reasons, whether practical or ideological, they drop out of the picture. It's a way of talking about the revolution that sort of forgets the revolution, the actual movement that led to independence. Even if we draw the circle narrowly just around this elite group, even among them, there were bitter divisions over the articles of confederation and whether to ratify them. So finally, as i've said before, it's really impossible and makes no sense to look to the founding fathers, in quotation marks, as a source of guidance or wisdom on how society should operate.
