The United States' Response to the Haitian Revolution
The first book is mostly about the shockwaves from that event and how they're reverberating in the United States. It shows kind of the complicated nuance of the relationship between the United States and Haiti. What's really interesting to me is to kind of see how the U.S. response to Haiti kind of changes and evolves over the time, over time; then kind of flat lines through a large portion of the early part of the 19th century.
