The Importance of a PhD in Machine Learning

I think the big challenge of anyone doing a PhD in machine learning right now is there's a wealth of great opportunities that come with enormous trade-offs. I'm very grateful to my partners in industry who have sponsored my research thus far. In academia, the advice I've been given quite frankly is don't think about policy until after you have tenure because nobody will value it. So, you know, train offs the bound and I'm very lucky that my PhD has allowed me to kind of do all these things and I'm enjoying the ride while I can.
