William Lepoitier and the Marriage Proposal
Some historians have taken the fact that william lepoitier asked harold to marry his daughter as proof that he was trying to play nice. But even if a betrothal existed, it doesn't prove that william was trying toplay nice and that he saw harold as some sort of future son in law. It as far more likely that william may have been trying save face, as he could argue that while he wasn't the king of england, like he told everyone he would be, he now had a marriage alliance with that king.
