Manstein's masterful piin the sky plan, if successful, would have simply shortened the front to about a hundred, 50 miles and buy them time. Manstein insisted that if this plan was to be done, it had to be done now before the soviets could keep building up their forces. Hitler would instead wait and wait and wait.
