The thoughts around pain kick in and push us into this distressed overwhelmed state. I've had some good conversations with patients where they'll say it's not the intensity of the pain that bothers them. What does it mean? What does it means for my future? The what ifs, all those kind of negative thoughts we've talked about can take them to a point during flare-up where they go into rumination. And that is a very, very difficult state to be in.
