The Importance of Pay as You Go Types in Languages
I think if you'd ask the question of like, well, we should think of types in general as pay as you go. Maybe your base language should be default, be untyped. And then when you want some extra control, you should add types to it and lock it down more. It's often simpler and better, at least for some kinds of problems, to have a uniform approach where you sort of figure out what trade offs you want to do.
