The End of Measles
In the first half of the 20th century, measles was endemic nearly everywhere. In 1954, virologist John Enders and another scientist isolated the measles virus from an 11-year-old boy. This allowed people to make a vaccine which made standardization really possible. And having this virus that they could finally isolate, they could then measure it to see how much virus was present in a culture.
