A huge number of canadians lost their lives during this battle. So that means critical supplies were lost, but also thousands and thousands of people on those ships. People started calling that area pass where the plains could protect you, the black pit. The british government put it out there that they wanted proposals, and however bizarre they might seem, they would be willing to consider them.
