The Crimean War and the Concert of Europe

Otto von Bismarck spoke of blood and iron in his second speech as Prussian prime minister. He used the phrase to fund a series of wars that led to German unification, writes Peter Bergen. The first war was fought over two small duchies on Northern Europe's Jutland Peninsula. In 1866, Germany wins the Austria-Prussia War by taking control of Schlesvi and Holstein.
