In August last year Swedish steel maker SSAB together with state owned utility Vattenfall and mining company LKAB started test operations at the hybrid pilot plant for fossil free steel. A more likely green hydrogen price of $2 per kilo by 2030 would require a carbon price of $125 per metric ton, dropping perhaps to $50 per ton by 2050 as hydrogen prices continue to fall.
