When I moved to LA in my twenties, I was stunned by the amount of LA I absorbed just watching television as a kid in this small factory town in upstate New York. And there's this sense of like, it's almost like this kind of default place in the collective imagination. It's sort of the default suburb, especially. Once you are very familiar with LA's geography and built environment, watching TV becomes very distracting. Because you're inclined to not even follow what's going on. You're just looking at, Oh, I know that place.
