The Pope's Trip to Uganda Was an Important Diplomatic Watershed
The pope spent three days in uganda, watched by 100 thousand spectators. He dedicated a shrine to 22 catholic martyrs. At an open air mass, he consecrated a dozen african bishops. Elsewhere on the continent, a civil war was raging between the nigerian government and the breakaway republic of biafra. In a powerful speech before boarding his v c ten back to rome, the pope stressed the importance of continued efforts towards peace.
