Ise Monogatari - A Collection of Tales

Ise mono gatati is a collection of tales about romantic escapades in Japan 12 hundred years ago. Most of the text is about said protagonist meeting a woman, falling in love with her and exchanging poetry before possibly having a romantic encounter together. The collected stories are called the ise monogatari because one of the most famous stories tells a nice little story of a liaison between our protagonist,. who is sent as an imperial envoy to ise's shrine, and the daughter of the shrine priestess. And the tale ends with a final exchange of wistful poetry before the parting.
