The new last attempted to overcome the insubstantiality of the establishment by resorting to politics of confrontation. But those tactics made the new dependent on the very elite institutions it was trying to critique or bring down. Itd turned the whole movement into another t v show, or a thing to do on saturday night. A lot of the elites they were supposed to be striking out against loved this stuff. The militancy of the new york panthers was partly a reaction against this.
