Homer's Homeric Gods - Is Zeus in Charge?

The violent, rowdy, incestuous circus of the Homeric gods is certainly entertaining. But it doesn't seem like something that ought to inspire worship and reverence. Modern readers are not the only ones to find Homer's pantheon less than magisterial. Xenophanes' sharply critical theological writings were thousands of years ahead of his time.
