What Are Dragon Flies Doing?

Dragon flies have spines on the end of their appendages that they used to eat with. They're actually called seedy and can't move them around like fingers. Unlike adults, their purpose in baby dragon flies was a total mystery. A colleague noticed there was variation in these seedy which almost looked like, in some cases, like a little spine. Some case looked almost like a glove or a pine cone. Ken had the idea or hypothesis that they might be used for digging.
