As jean learned the skills that would make him a knight, he absorbed the culture and expect ations of chivalry. When he ate meals with his father, the other knights and the lord of kusi, they entertained themselves with stories of great deeds of chivalry. Arthurian tales were extremely popular - launcelot and galahad running around doing fantastic violence. The written word buttressed the oral culture of knighthood.
