The Role of Herpes in Alzheimer's

When you get a virus, a bacteria, any foreign microbe going through the brain, it turns on the immune system. And when that immune system in the brain is turned on in a self-defense mode, beta amyloid is produced as part of the immune system and starts targeting brain cells. Whether COVID is going to be a long term risk factor for Alzheimer's disease is a question that remains to be answered. But certainly, if one of the risk factors for Alzheimer's is things that turn on the immunesystem in the brain then that is a reasonable worry.
