The First State to Ratify Civil Rights

In 1969 it was first proposed just after a year after Dr. King died. And then by 1979, there was a push in Washington to do something about it. The John Birch Society launched a massive campaign against it as did Jesse Helms and some other conservative senators from the South. Warren Hatch rejected it at first, but all the enough, the conservative Warren Hatch decided to come around and support it.
