Is There a Difference Between Individualism and Totalitarianism?

Right now, perhaps we're fairly atomized. It feels like people are quite lonely, but perhaps we'll find some way back to community. I think good individualism is being able to differentiate yourself from the crowd. But that doesn't mean that you check out of society. We do seem hardwired for conformity.
