I think there's some really good justifications for insurance in certain cases. We as humans tend to have concave utility functions with respect to money. So that kind of nonlinearity means that even if buying a certain type of insurance was net negative, you could actually still gain utility buying it. Some insurance is stupid. It's mispriced. It doesn't make sense to buy it.
