The Brocken Gespense in Infinite Jest

A Brocken Gespense is this very magnified shadow cast upon clouds opposite of the sun's direction. It occurs when uniformly sized, tiny water droplets in clouds refract and backscatter light. In infinite jest, there are two characters named Morathen Stieplie who converse throughout the novel on a mountain outcropping outside of Tucson, Arizona. They function something like a Greek drama in the novel. And they represent the human being as Imago Dei made in the image of God so that they are magnified beyond their physical size.
