The Importance of Having a Good Private Friends Circle

Burroughs was a conservative anarchist who had extremely wild ideas and expressed himself in a very wild and bizarre way, but nonetheless maintained a very prim and proper conservative attitude towards most everyday questions of politics and society. We learned that you need to have a good private friend circle of passionate, genuine, intelligent, creative spirits who you really like and who genuinely like you. And you need to ham each other up and gas each other up until you hit a critical mass and it starts boiling over into society at large. Burroughs seemed to practice some version of this in the way that he always maintained conservative politics and conservative dress in order that he may live a more violently creative life.
