The Death of Anthony Comstock
The Comstock Act was passed in the mid 1800s to make abortion illegal. The act is named after Anthony Comstock, a physician who became famous for his anti-abortion crusades. Dozens of people committed suicide as a result of these acts and it didn't stop women from having abortions,. It just made abortions a lot less safe because women had no idea what they were doing.
