Introduction
In a 1995 interview, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs explained how he thought about hiring employees. The idea that a society's most talented people should hold the most power and earn the most money is called meritocracy. In its ideal form, meritocracy promises that every person, no matter their background, can flourish. But surprisingly, Victor Tan had a deeply pessimistic view of this kind of system.
