Stalin believed there's only one way that history can go, and the Soviet Union is behind. The consequences of this view for Ukraine are dramatic, right? And collectivization then is the precondition for the famine and the death of around 4 million people in 1932 and 1933. In the national question itself, you have the same swinging back and forth between determinism and volunteerism.
