Married people still find it uncomfortable for their partners to have friends of the opposite sex. In some ways marriage makes these relationships safer, because they can incorporate their spouse into the relationship. The case where being unmarried would be better actually is if she's widowed. At that point, she's seen as sort of not a sexual being anymore.
