The Magic Circle of Play
The game gives us permission to do things we wouldn't do in ordinary life. That's an important way that is part of what makes games so meaningful and engaging for people. The minute the game has any real world, direct real world implications, it's not a game. It's like a basketball player whose career is going to depend on whether he makes that dunk shot, that's something else. And even, you know, all the sort of learning, games that are so about math with this game, or this with this game,. once it has that weight on it, it'sNot really, really play anymore.
