Is There a Way to Make a Simple Magic System More Complex?
If you want it to feel complex, then you need rules and conditions. My my best tip is to make skill madter. If the magic users need to take a nuanced approach to how they implement the magic, that will automatically make your magic seem more nuanced. For example, if i wanted to do a magic system around jewelry, specifically, let say stone cutting, a way i could make it more nuanced is by making the angle of the cut,. the type of cut, the type of stone, the way it's polished - all these little details. That makes it a more nuance system, makes it feel more nuanced. So my favourite nuanced magic system is rainbow rowell.
